Food

Food, Food, Food!!

What can I say about it, other than I love it! My mom kept us in the kitchen from day 1, teaching all of her kids to cook! My mom was an avid baker and I think it really rubbed off on me.. I've always called my mom  "The Black Martha Stewart" Here is a picture of my mom (with me watching intently) making one of her famous bunny cakes that she made for me every year for my birthday.

This is were I got my passion for cooking and baking!
This page is dedicated to my love of food and will take you on a journey as I explore new recipes and new trends in food.(I hope I don't gain any weight from this journey)! I will be featuring recipes that I've discovered and have created and hope that you will feel inspired to try them as well.

Here is a picture of my first "paid" cake.

This cake was for a babyshower for an adopted little boy named Patrick. Someone (Miss Tonya Kirby;) )  believed enough in my talent to pass my name on to an associate that was looking for a cake. Well she emailed me with some pictures and told me that was what she was looking for! At first I was very hesitant, because I had only worked with fondant once or twice and I had NEVER molded fondant into shapes. I reluctantly responded saying that I could do it but I would need to practice.  So I got on youtube and started watching videos and praying that this would work out! The Zebra print and the giraffe prints on the cakes were fairly easy. Just colored the fondant, rolled it out and then cut out the patterns. But the animals to go on top would prove to be the challenge. But I sucked it up and starting going. I ended up making 1 monkey, 2 elephants and 2 lions! The client was so ecstatic that she said she would definitely be using me again. No, its not the same quality as a seasoned professional but for it being my first time molding fondant into shapes, I must say that I am proud of my work!
